“What keeps me going is the hope and dream of being able to produce – to focus on art, ride my bike to see these locations and to provide great art for all my friends and family, and to make enough so I can eat.”
We met Roy by accident as we were wandering through the Aberdeen, Washington Art Walk & Rod Fest on July 25, 2015. He was giving away half of his art and seemed so approachable that I went back and asked him if he would agree to be my first interview. He was so sweet and said yes.
Roy would love to give away all his art for free, but he does have to eat, so he sells only a portion of what he creates.
He begins his painting process with lovely pen sketches in a small art journal. Once he has worked out the colors and brush strokes he likes, he then creates on a larger structure, such as canvas or board.
Roy is another nomad. He has made several long journeys across the US by bike and hopes his art will support him in that endeavor some day.
