See Part One
After the interview at Ocean Beach Roasters, Helene invited Jema and I to tag along with her for the afternoon.
We followed her car – which sports signatures from people all over the United States – to a beautiful neighborhood overlooking the water. (Jema and I had to sign the car too – of course.)
There we met Mayoral Candidate Susan Conniry, who had invited Helene out for a neighborhood gathering. The residents had come together to discuss some planning issues involving the city and had just finished their business when we arrived.
They insisted we help ourselves to lunch – a wonderful buffet of homemade food. Then Susan introduced Helene to the crowd.
After chatting for a while, we all gathered for a group photo in the park across the street.
The folks who live and work in Ocean Shores are some of the most welcoming, warm people I have met. As Susan mentioned in the video, they welcomed us in and made us feel right at home. Just as if we lived right there in the neighborhood.
